Founding Pastor Arlie Whitlow moved to Sterling, Virginia in August 1982 to begin The Community Church. The first service was held on September 14, 1982 with 35 people in attendance. There was neither a church building nor any assets. There was only a dream that God would raise up a wonderful place where people could know Him and raise their families in a Godly environment.

In addition to helping men and women to heal their hearts and nourish their souls, Pastor Arlie had a burning desire to help senior citizens to grow old with dignity. In, 2001 under Pastor Arlie's guidance, The Community Church built the first, and only privately owned luxury affordable housing complex in Sterling VA for senior citizens 55 years of age and older, which is known today as Cascades Village.

The Community Church, also built the adjacent assisted living facility, The Monroe House, that to date continue to serve the ever growing needs of our senior community. Both facilities maintained under independent property management companies that remain committed to support our senior population to grow old in an environment that caters to the beauty, charm, and essence of the greater Loudoun County community-at-large. It asks nothing more in return from its residents then to “love and respect thy neighbor as thy self ...”

The Virginia Academy, formally the Ark Academy, is another tribute of how The Community Church continues to serve the good people of Loudoun County. Currently under the direction of Pastor Arlie's eldest son, Pastor Charlie Whitlow, and its Executive Pastor, Dr. Fred Snowden, The Community Church continues the wonderful work begun by his father, Founding Pastor Arlie Whitlow including the youth, preschool, kindergarten, and elementary through 8th grade curriculum at the Virginia Academy. Notwithstanding, Pastor Charlie Whitlow's vision for the future.
